Colorado 2017

Day One

Arriving at BBA at approximately 3:00am on the morning of Monday, June 12, the (graduated) senior Success Scholars set out for one final trip as a group. Flying out of Boston Logan International Airport into Denver, the day was already planned full with activities. After picking up the rental vans, the first stop of the day was a sandwich shop, called Silver Mine Subs. After getting something to eat, scholars set out for Boulder to do some rock climbing for the majority of the afternoon in one of Colorado's famous national parks. Photos below.

Day Two

Day two began with breakfast at the hotel and a swift departure from the hotel at 8am. Scholars spent the beginning of the day at Rocky Mountain National Park- driving around to enjoy the views, hiking up lots of stairs to see the Rocky Mountains from over 12,000 feet up, and even getting to see Mr. Kochenour, the former chemistry teacher at BBA who recently retired last year. After eating lunch in the park, scholars headed back down to a much warmer environment to tour the Stanley hotel, where Stephen King and Jim Carrey have both stayed. It is also known as the place where King got his inspiration for his book The Shining. After dinner at the hotel, scholars travelled just down the road in Boulder to take a tour of a company called Shinesty, which sells all sorts of crazy clothing for parties, events, and everyday wear.

Day Three

Day three was another adventure filled day. Scholars traveled to Idaho Springs, where they spent the morning white water rafting in the creek that was 38 degrees. Although it was a beginner course, there were plenty of waves big enough to knock someone out. After grabbing lunch at a pizza place down the road, scholars went to Jefferson County to help with some trail maintenance. After a quick stop to the Red Rock Amphitheater, scholars dropped their bags off at the hotel in Colorado Springs and got ready for a family-style dinner at Rudy's Barbecue.

Day Four

This was the final full day in Colorado, before the red eye flight at 11:45pm. Scholars visited the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs for a couple hours, which is a huge area of red rocks of all unique shapes and sizes. After stopping for burgers at The Airplane Restaurant, scholars headed to the Colorado Springs Olympic Training Center for a lengthy tour that allowed scholars to see inside and outside of where athletes train, and even meet some of the athletes. The day wrapped up back in Denver, with some shopping time and dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe.
